Šta raditi? Verovatno ste hiljadu puta već čuli da ne treba da konzumirate obroke bogate ugljenim hidratima posle 18h. Ali šta ako niste mnogo jeli u toku dana i stvarno ste gladni? Ne, ne, reći će vam dobronamerni prijatelji, ili ćete se uzdržavati od ugljenih hidrata posle 18h ili ćete se ugojiti. Ali da li je baš tako?
Jedan čovek se ne slaže sa ovim uvreženim mišljenjem. Njegovo ime je Grem Tomlinson, ali je na društvenim mrežama poznatiji kao The Fitness Chef. Ovaj nutricionista i trener smatra da se savetovanje ljudi da ne jedu posle 18h bazira na velikoj zabludi. On tvrdi da ne postoji nijedna naučna studija koja dokazuje ovu tezu, ali da se mnogima čini kao validna zato što u večernjim časovima dolazi do usporavanja metabolizma.

A carbohydrate by basic definition is; ‘a biomolecule consisting of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.’ Though, rather unfortunately over the last 30 years or so carbohydrates have been met with revulsion, fear and persecution. Mainly by those who erroneously sympathize with the notion consumption of carbs will impact body fat more so than any other macronutrient source. – – The immediate problem with such a dubious claim is the mirky differentiation of carbohydrates as an entity within edible food. Pizza, pasta, chips, bread and pastry all fall inside the umbrella of “Don’t eat it because it’s got carbs and you’ll get fat.” Yet if we examine the exact ingredients in such food we can immediately assert that carbohydrates are not the only caloric variable present. The examples displayed on the right of this graphic represent foods which contain calories from carbs, protein and more pertinently, fat – which houses caloric density. – – Put simply, fat contains 9 calories per gram, compared to 4 calories per gram respective of protein and carbs. Therefore the presence of protein and fat (via additional ingredients) within food will increase its overall caloric worth. Calorie balance (of any macronutrient ratio) determines body composition. Not carbs. – – The futility of the ‘carbs make you fat’ argument is compelled by the fact that fruit and vegetables are mostly made up of carbohydrates. Therefore by persecuting carbs in such generic terms, one would be inadvertently claiming that ‘broccoli makes you fat’. – – Reducing body fat has and always will be about creating a negative energy balance, irrespective of carbohydrate consumption. Cutting out carbs may create a calorie deficit, but the same applies if fat and protein are removed. And given that most foods contain all three macronutrients, it’s a much more logical and realistic idea to address overall caloric worth of food. Kao i mnogim svojim objavama na Instagramu, Grem želi da ubedi ljude da treba da se koncentrišu na unos kalorija i njihovo trašenje, a manje da vode računa o vremenu kada jedu. On takođe ukazuje da mnogi navodno zdravi obroci nisu baš toliko zdravi kada se čovek malo upozna sa njihovom nutritivnom i kalorijskom vrednošću.

On the six month anniversary of Monica and Peter’s first date, they rejoice in altogether the more illustrious surroundings – a brunch cafe in Ealing. Birds sing to the tune of spring as daffodils stretch up from their sleepy roots on a freshly mown lawn. It is the most joyous of days. They savor each mouthful of their delicious fry ups gazing into each others eyes. “Peter, I think this is the happiest I’ve ev…” – – Suddenly, ecstatic happiness is replaced by the haunting sound of a demonic witch. Karen. The callous f*ck who forms part of the tyrannous trio Monica used to liaise with. Monica turns around to find all three cackling mercilessly over their smoothie bowls at someone’s expense. Alas… it is hers. – – She cannot help but hear the intentionally loud whispers of “junk food”… “she’ll never learn”… “it’s just a matter of time before she gets fat again” and all 3 bellow out laughter as vociferously as the Marley brothers from the Muppet Christmas Carol. – – Then, Monica does something she wouldn’t have had the confidence to do six months ago. She composes herself and gently wipes her lips before standing up to confront her beastly tormentors. “Hiya girls”. Dagger teethed bellowing laughter is replaced by elitist distain. “I just checked the smoothie bowls you’re forcing down on the cafe website. They are 1057 calories each. The fry up I just enjoyed was 531. and it contained nutrients.” – – Distain is replaced by shrieks resembling distressed cats being bathed with 6 Rottweilers. Monica turns to the waitress, “these lovely ladies have just offered to pay for my breakfast, what luck”. She adds, “Oh and Karen, I know you’re having an affair with your 19 year old gardener. Your neighbour sent me videos of you whipping him next to the greenhouse.” Monica leaves, triumphant. – – Frantically chasing after, Peter glances back to see the trio open mouthed with trauma oozing into their smoothie bowls.
